A list of 5 educational tv programs for children that parents will enjoy watching too. Bubble Guppies, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Sesame Street, Team Umizoomi.

Screen time can be a hot topic amongst parents and in our family, we try to balance what Wesleigh watches and how frequently. Some days, especially during a pandemic, it’s unavoidable and even more so if your child can pick up the clicker and put on the TV herself like Wesleigh is now able to.

Whether your child watches a lot of TV or was just introduced to the big screen, sometimes TV is the solution to get work done, calm a tantrum or even, dare I say, enjoy an uninterrupted bathroom break.

I’ve rounded up here five of our family’s five favorite educational TV shows that as parents, we’ve been known to enjoy and watch with Wes.

Bubble Guppies

More often than not, this is my favorite show to watch with Wesleigh. Bubble Guppies is adorable and has the catchiest music – I swear these songs will get stuck in your head. Each episode, the Bubble Guppies, a group of fish children go to school and spend the show learning about new topics spanning from farm animals to the meaning of the holidays.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood

A play on Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, Daniel Tiger is a sweet and calm show that follows the child development principles of Fred Roger’s teaching. The series is centered on main character, Daniel Tiger, his family and friends as they deal with life lessons, which are reinforced through memorable jingles that you will find yourself singing throughout the day.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

Mickey and the gang hang around the clubhouse, leading viewers through stories and singalongs that emphasize lessons surrounding early math skills, shapes and pattern identification.

Sesame Street

A classic that both Zach and I grew up watching, Sesame Street is a childhood favorite. Known for its use of Muppets, the show is educational and encourages open conversation surrounding topics such as death, anger and racism, important to deal with starting from a young age.

Team Umizoomi

Milli and her brother Geo, and their friendly Robot, Bot are math superheroes that introduce viewers to counting, shapes and measurements. Each episode Milli and Geo help fellow citizens of Umi City with their problems by using their Mighty Math Powers to keep their urban home running smoothly.
