Am I the only person who gets a kick out of a neat and tidy space? Truth be told, I’m actually better at making order in other peoples homes than my own.  Having a toddler, a messy husband (sorry Z) and a pup that is king of the castle, it can be hard to keep up and declutter most days.

For this, I’m grateful we have a mudroom, a room I work very hard to not be our go-to “chair” or dumping ground. As soon as you get home, do your families fling their coat on the nearest surface (sofa, banister, floor…) or track dirt from their shoes into the house (this is my biggest pet peeve, I have a no shoes in the house policy…)? If your child, or husband, is anything like mine, you answered yes. We’re working on it though, I swear.

When we moved into our home, we pushed out the back of our house for a larger kitchen and mudroom/laundry area. In hindsight, while there are things I would change (the perils of contractor relationships!), we were able to incorporate spacious and functional built-ins. 

For a quick and easy clean up and to reduce the amount of literal home-work on my list, I implement these simple steps for mudroom (and/or entryway) organization.

Add a mat or drop station for wet/dirty shoes and boots. I love Chilewich, their product is both durable and beautiful, so much so that we’ve incorporated their mats at each doorway in our home (both indoors and out).
